Inclusivity comes in many forms and we're committed to making Kensington Community Aquatic & Recreation Centre more inviting and accessible for members of our community.

That's why we've introduced quiet and low sensory hours and have a centre that is designed to be fully accessible.

Quiet and low sensory hours (starting 4 May 2026)

We understand that some people often need a quieter and calmer environment to feel comfortable. The quiet and low sensory hours at KCARC are:

  • Monday 11:00am – 1:00pm
  • Tuesday 11:00am – 1:00pm
  • Wednesday 11:00am – 1:00pm
  • Thursday 11:00am – 1:00pm
  • Friday 11:00am – 1:00pm

During these dedicated hours, we lower the music, switch off screens and dim the lights. This helps to create a more accessible space where everyone feels welcome, especially those with sensory sensitivities.

Benefits of our quiet and low sensory environments

  • Reduced sensory overload – Lower noise levels create a low sensory environment which will help prevent sensory overload while decreasing anxiety and discomfort.
  • Increased accessibility and inclusivity – Our environments are more accessible and welcoming to individuals with autism, ADHD, PTSD and other conditions that involve sensory processing challenges.
  • Enhanced comfort, enjoyment and experiences – Quiet and low sensory settings can transform overwhelming experiences into positive ones, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging repeated visits.
